Have you ever had a Rep that was a real nice person and they always sounded eager to work their business but they could never find the time to start?

Over the past 10 years I have had the opportunity to work with a lot of folks in building their MLM business. Some folks that you sign up and within a day they have memorized everything there is to know about your company, products and services and they can recite the compensation plan forwards and backwards. Some people you bring into your business enter the witness protection plan right after you say welcome to the team. They cannot be reached by phone or email and you are left wondering why they joined in the first place.

I have had some folks that are eager to get started and you give them a quick assignment to get them going and ask them to call you as soon as they get it done. You expect a call within a day or two but they don’t call so you call them and just like before their excitement is over the top though circumstances have not permitted them to get to the assignment yet but they promise to have it done by the end of the day and they thank you for being such a great leader !

These people are extremely challenging to work with because they are so pleasant and free with their compliments about working with you. You find yourself making allowances for them because of their fierce excitement and their promises to get to it. I had a leader in my MLM business that described this phenomenon as the new consultant being stuck in the “Saddle Up” Phase.  Regardless of what you say or do they just keep saddling the horse and they never get on the horse and ride.

These people have a fear of failure or perhaps making a mistake and they let this fear paralyze them into not taking action. It has been my experience that for most of the people that fall into this category they never succeed. They are so consumed with this fear that unless they confront it directly they will be in and out of your business within a month or two. My recommendation is to share this kind of training with them. Let them know they are not alone and that you are there to help them but make sure they understand that failure is part of success.

Everyone that is a success to day was a failure in the past. Perhaps have them read “Failing Forward” by John C Maxwell. It is ok as their sponsor to love them as people but you must focus your time with the folks in your team that are getting the job done. Always be kind and always be upfront you only have time to work with the folks that Saddle Up and Ride.
