Do you find you get interrupted a lot when you go to present your MLM OPPORTUNITY?
When I first started doing calls I was very nervous and uncertain about how to ask people a bunch of questions that were in my mind, very personal. Questions like: are you married; where do you work; how much money do you need to have to replace your job; do you have any kids, made my blood pressure rocket. I was always taught by my dad to mind my own business. I guess I was a bit slow because it took me a long time before I figured out that I was minding my own business. I needed to know who I was talking to at a much deeper level than just knowing their name and phone number if I was going to have them as my business partner.
What I started off doing was focusing my attention on my company and the products/services we had. I went into great detail with my prospects because I felt if they knew what I had to offer them, they would join my business immediately. What I found typically happened I would begin explain my business and then the prospect would become frustrated feeling like I was wasting their time, they would ask a few quick questions and then hang up or dismiss me.
What I found over time was this; people really did not care about my business, products or services. The reason they listened to me at all was because they wanted to see if what I had, would help them. If the prospect did not interrupt me I would ramble on for 30 to 60 minutes and in most cases never answer the most important question they really needed to know. Can I help them solve their problem? I began my marketing career believing that I had to convince people to join my business and over time learned that my role was to be more like a Doctor. I need to first identify why they were looking for a business to do from home and then show them how I could help them achieve that.
People are also looking for a leader, someone they can trust and will help them solve their problem. When I first started presenting my business to people I did not want to use a script and so my calls seemed to not have any direction and my prospects would get impatient and hang up.
When you do your presentation you need to sound like someone that is going somewhere. It is important that you ask the questions and then listen to the answers. Your role is not to be interesting, you need to be quiet and be interested. Your prospect’s time is important and so when you give your presentation you need to respectful of that. Let your prospect know who you are and why is it you are calling them. Let them know what you are looking to accomplish and then get on with it, you’re not on the phone with them to just have a chat session. You will have far more success in marketing when you take on a consultant role with your prospect. When they feel you are not trying to attack their wallet you will find they will be far more relaxed and open to you.
When you make your calls use a script, it is your game plan don’t waste your prospect’s time. Your script will keep you on track and keep your call moving in the right direction (practice reading it 10 times a day for 10 days). With repetition you will become your script and not need to read it. Remember: you ask the questions and you do the listening. Your ratio should be about 80% listening and 20% talking. In the beginning you will feel nervous and scared and that’s ok everyone does. Your posture should be similar to that of an employer doing an interview – be in control combined with a Doctor looking to identify the problem and then explore your solution to see if it is a fit. When you follow this simple plan your prospect will not feel like you are wasting their time and your frustration in your MLM business will begin to leave.
