Passion and Belief Move Mountains

In this installment of MLM secrets I want to share with you the importance of passion and belief. There are many things that will impact your success in marketing but none as much as passion and belief.

Too often people get involved in Network Marketing and only go through the motions of what is needed and within a few short weeks they fail. I have recruited dozens of people that told me they would prefer to purchase leads than to generate their own MLM leads by contacting people that they know about their opportunity, their products or services until they had been in the business for a while.

The Quitter Group

Not surprisingly, these people rarely ever signed anyone up into their business and invariably became frustrated and would quit before giving their business a serious go. So what was the problem with and not wanting to approach their friends and family or people in their local community? What is wrong with someone coming into a Network Marketing business and choosing just a call leads?

I believe that it comes down to ethics not MLM secrets. This person does not believe in what he is doing him because he is not convinced that what he has to offer is sound so the people that he calls over the phone can feel it in his voice and reject the offer. They can hear the dishonesty coming through the phone. Recall the last time you got really excited about something. You told everybody that you knew about this amazing discovery. You got so passionate that you got them excited about it as well.

Boring or Brilliant?

Remember when you were in school and your teacher would read from a textbook and his voice would put to sleep. Now think of someone that taught you and when they would read they had you sitting on the edge of your chair. Throughout history we have had powerful leaders and every one of them was a strong communicator. They put conviction in their voice and when they spoke people believed in them. Think of the words of Winston Churchill “… We shall never, never give up! ” Martin Luther King “….I had a dream…!

You can have great products and services and you can have an excellent compensation plan but if you’re not excited about what you’re doing you’re not going to make a dime! If you’re not comfortable marketing your products and services to the people you care about or offer your MLM business opportunity to people you respect then save your money and go get a part time job.

Why would you expect someone to join your business when you don’t even believe in it yourself? If you want success then approach your MLM business with passion and belief and when you do you will find that your business will reflect your mindset! People are looking for leaders with vision and conviction-people that know where they’re going so the question is are you that can a person? I recommend that you do an inventory on yourself-do you have the conviction and passion that others are looking for in you?

How Do You Score – Zero or Hero
Perhaps the most critical mlm secrets you will discover will be what you need to identify that will raise your belief and passion to that of an MLM leader. When I first became involved in network marketing one of the first things I was asked to do for my mlm lead generationwas to create a list of names of people that I knew. I was told that the larger the list I created the better. I recall thinking to myself after I put the third name down on paper that creating a list of names was going to be more difficult than I thought.

One of the problems that I had when I was writing out my list of names was that I was trying to come up with names of people that I thought would join my business. What I should’ve done was to simply read out the names of people that I knew and not worry whether not they would be interested in my business at all.

Having been a manager and a long-term employee of the company that I worked for, I had access to a large list of names on our corporate employee list. Shamefully this was the list that I used for my mlm lead generation assignment to set off on my first serious network marketing venture. I thought that I would just tell these folks how much money they could make and they would all want to join me. Nothing could have been further from the truth, although I signed up a number of people from this list many of the people that I called wanted nothing to do with it.

There were a number of people that I had thought of after I started using this employee list that I believed I would have no difficulty whatsoever in recruiting. I went at them like a starving squirrel looking for the last peanut on earth. I believe that some of the people that I eventually signed up from this group only joined my business so that I would leave them alone. If this is something that you are doing, I would encourage you to stop, friendship is not something that should be monetized. I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t let your friends know what you’re doing, because I believe that only makes sense. What I’m suggesting to you is that you let them know what you’re doing and then let them decide for themselves if they’re interested or not.

Three simple ways to approach people in your local area:
1. The Direct Approach
2. The Indirect Approach
3. The Extremely Indirect Approach

Note: People will join for their own reasons and not yours -so find out their reasons.

The Direct Approach would suggest the you already know this person and you might start off with something like:

John I was just heading out the door so I don’t have much time to talk but I’m really glad I was able to catch you. When you told me that you were looking for another way to create an income from home, were you serious or really just kidding around?

Give John a complement -[should be a sincere one] example: John you’ve always been really good with people and that’s something that I’ve always admired about you.

John I believe I have come across something that might work for both of us. If I gave you a DVD to watch a presentation that professionally goes over in detail a business would you look at it?

You would? Great when would you have a chance to look at it? This evening? Okay, so if I called you tomorrow evening would you look at it for sure? Okay what’s the best time to call? Look I’ve got run so I’ll talk to you tomorrow evening.

You have your mlm lead generation in place and you have lots of prospects to call but your business is not growing.  Do you have difficulty sponsoring new consultants into your business? Do you find that you do a great job with your presentation and then after you send them to a corporate video on your business opportunity you call them back they are interested but won’t sign up. So what is at the top recruiters do that you’re not doing what gives them the ability to sign up so many people while you struggle to sign up even one?

No arm-twisting

There’s an old saying that goes like this: A mind convinced against it’s will is of the same opinion still. I don’t believe in yes conditioning simply because it tends to cause tension. People are far more sophisticated these days and they know when you’re trying to put them together. This person is going to become your business partner not just a conquest. I believe in treating people the way I would like to be treated.

What did you like best about what you heard?

After the person has watched your business presentation we are bringing this business connection to a close or completion. Either the person is interested in your business and wants to get started or they do not. Your task is to collect a decision. One of my coaches said I don’t mind a “Yes” and I don’t mind a “No” but the “Maybes” drive me crazy!

Ask your prospect what it is that they liked best about what they saw or heard and then be quiet. Let your prospect speak and don’t interrupt them. They are either going to tell you what they liked or they will tell you that they’re not interested. If they’re not interested let them go. If however, they tell you what they liked ask them to elaborate more on those points that they liked.

Sounds like you’re ready to get started!

Using what is called an assumptive close you make a statement that they are ready to begin. You are not asking them if they are ready to get started, rather you are stating it as a fact. Once you state this you need to be quiet and wait for the prospect to speak which generally will be a “Yes ”.

On a scale of 1 to 10

An alternate approach would be to ask your prospect for them to score them self on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being not interested and 10 being ready to get started immediately. Once they give their score you will know if you have someone is interested or not. If a prospect scores himself at five or less thank them for their interest and let them know that they don’t qualify to go further. Once you have done this pause and see if they challenge you on letting them go. If they score them self between six and nine ask them what it would take to get them up to a 10. If they have any concerns or objections is at this stage that you will find them out.

As I have shared with you in the past MLM Secrets are not true secrets but if you don’t know them your business will fall flat. You must understand mlm lead generation, and mlm recruiting. You have a great business opportunity and you are great at MLM lead generation yet when you present your opportunity to people they don’t join, now is that frustrating or what? In this article I’m going to give you some ideas on how to increase your sign-up ratio by as high as 50%.

When I first got involved in network marketing I was marketing telecommunication services and we had very competitive prices. In many cases I could offer the people that I knew much lower prices than they were presently paying. Despite this fact, many people that I called were reluctant to use my telecommunication services.

When I presented my business opportunity to people I knew, and showed them the amount of income that they could generate marketing telecommunication services I was surprised to note that only a small percentage were interested. Of the people that did join only a small portion actually went out and presented the business to more than a couple people. This also amazed me given the amount of money that a person could earn if they went out and marketed it.

At the beginning of this article I said that fish don’t bite on Hooks they bite on the Bait, so what do you suppose I meant? Originally I thought that people would want to join a solid business that had a great income potential and if I do a great job at presenting it, they would join with me. As it turned out I was wrong, people are not looking for amazing amazing businesses with great compensation plans.

Maybe some time ago, folks were interested in great businesses and stupendous compensation plans but over the years people have been burned. Somebody has come along and told a prospect how great their company was and how awesome the compensation plan, recruited them and then dropped them as they moved on to find another to enlist.

I have found that people are far more savvy now and they are not as interested in the fact that it company is debt-free with some amazing compensation plan guaranteed to make your eyes pop out. When a person considers getting involved in a network marketing business they are looking for a solution to their problem. Consider for a moment the differences between features and benefits. Features are what your business has but it is the benefits which are individual and unique to each person looking at your business that will grab their attention or not.

Most people look at network marketing with a very skeptical eye simply because they have heard of so many people trying to make an income with a multilevel marketing company and failed as a result of not being successful with MLM lead generation. These folks simply don’t want to be another notch on some recruiter’s belt. They don’t know how to be successful at marketing and they really can’t afford spend the next five years trying to figure it out. People looking at marketing often are looking at it as a resolution to a financial problem.

Learning how to do MLM lead generation effectively is it science and can take a significant period of time to become competent with. A ploy often used by top recruiters is to make network marketing appear to be very easy to do and all too often when the new network marketer steps out to make his fortune he fails.

If the new network marketers were all prepared to spend the next five years buying courses, purchasing advertising and going to training conferences, the press that network marketing gets would be much better. People are looking for leaders who care about them and will take the time to ensure that their new people are valued even after the initial commissions have been paid out.

What is your unique selling position and why would somebody want to join with you versus joining with somebody else? Are they joining with you because you have a better company? Are they joining with you because you have a better compensation plan? Are they joining with you because you are more successful? Are they joining with you because they feel you care about them and are prepared to help them succeed? I was watching a video from one of my mentors Eric Worre today and he shared how many people have as their best mlm success strategy to treat their business like trying to win the Lotto. It was a really great comparison that I have seen happen over and over again over the years. You share the business opportunity with your prospect and you give them a picture of the kind of money that can be made and they are excited. The new rep dives into some training info and is already counting the windfall of cash that will soon hit the bank account.

I then suggest that the new Reps write out their goals and begin creating a list of people they know and they begin to slow down with some coming to a complete stop. Those that continue often will have 4 or five people they want to have join them and in the event that they reject the business the majority of the fledgling entrepreneurs are calling it quits. The remaining newbie’s are hoping that this will work and they stick it out for the long haul which for most will be 61 days from start to finish.

The small percentage that remain which is typically between 3 – 5% have a more disciplined and committed spirit toward building their business. Now it should be noted that there are many that remain in their given MLM of choice longer but their leaving their MLM usually only lacks the formality of resigning they have moved on within that first 60 days.

I have spoke about the value of goals on many occasions because it is so critical to staying the course with one’s business. Your best mlm success strategy starts with you knowing your reason for building an MLM business and it must be more than just making a lot of money. Michael Cheney recently did a video training series on the value of written goals and he gave credit to Brian Tracy for a achieving goals and that was to write down on paper your top 5 goals and then each morning before you begin your day to write them out and to write them as though you have already completed them.

Michael said that he uses “SMART” Goals:
S = Specific = describe exactly what it is you want
M= Measureable = you need to be able to quantify exactly what you eg. $100,000.00 deposited in your savings account.
A = Achievable = this should not be so easy that you don’t have to strive to accomplish it and yet it must be something that you are capable of achieving
R = Realistic = something that is humanly possible
T= Time = set a specific amount of time to achieve this goal

I love the quote that Michael Cheney gives on success “Success isn’t something won by wondering how; but rather, by working in the wonder of NOW!”

Treat your MLM business like a real business and you increase the chances of your success dramatically. Set up a schedule each week of when you will work your business. Write down the things you need to complete each evening before stop for the night. After you have written down what you are going to complete number them in order of importance. Your employer gave you your job duties when you first started and you got paid each day because you did your job. Ask yourself right now if you are showing up for your business and getting the job done of building your business or would you fire yourself.

Let’s begin with an MLM lead generation reality check. If you don’t like talking to people and you don’t like helping people and you’re afraid to share your MLM business with your friends and your family you are doomed to fail. Network marketing by definition is connecting with others to sell/distribute products and services.

You might think that you can do network marketing using a mouse and a keyboard but you could not be farther from the truth. Network marketing is based on helping people solve their problems. You might have a great video about your business or a really cool squeeze page to capture leads but remember this: it is people that watch your videos and it is people that will enter your squeeze pages and leave you their information.

When you begin your network marketing business you need to come to grips with the reality that if you are ashamed to share your business or you are not sold yourself on your products or services you’re not going to convince anybody else to get them. There’s an old saying that goes like this, “you have to be a product of the product”. You’ll also often hear the term posture thrown around and this is really nothing more than demonstrating confidence in your products and services and in your ability to help others with them.

The error that most people make is they confuse marketing with high-pressure sales. I would define high-pressure sales as applying emotional pressure to get someone to buy something that they don’t need, can’t afford, and never will use. In truth ethical marketing or sales is matching your product or service (solution) with a person’s problem or need.

If you bought a gas station on the corner you would have no problem letting your friends know what you just purchased. You would not demand that they begin purchasing their gasoline from you but rather simply inform them and invite them to pop over. You are able to do this without monetizing your relationship and without putting undue pressure to make all their gasoline purchases from you. Simply inform and encourage them to come over.

If you just began your network marketing business then your first MLM lead generation assignment is to make a list of 200 names of people you know and then began contacting them and letting them know about your new venture. In the first three MLM Lead Generation articles in this series I spoke about using local/warm market strategies but today I want to share with you some strategies that you can use over the Internet. The great thing about these approaches and I’m going to share is that they can be done for little or no cost.

Facebook - if you don’t have a Facebook account then I want to encourage you to make this the day you join the ranks of Facebook. This is an excellent forum as it has millions of members and these members each have specific demographics that they have identified in their accounts. With this information you can do a search perhaps join a group and then set out to start making contact with the group’s members. Many people that use Facebook will send out friend requests and then never make any effort to connect with them. This will not be you you’re actually going to reach out and make connections with these people in a meaningful way. In my eight day MLM marketing boot Camp I go into some depth as well as provide you with additional information on how to set up your Facebook account to promote yourself. Think about it millions of people and all you have to do is reach out and be a friend.

Interview leaders - attend conventions that your MLM company has and bring with you your video camera. When you get to the convention identify the top income earners that are present and then set out to interview them with your video camera. This is not a way to generate leads in and of itself however using these videos can generate tremendous credibility to people considering working with you. The fact that you’re interviewing leaders places you at the head of the pack as most people are very reluctant to approach the leaders and here you are interviewing them. This is also an excellent lead-in for our next strategy.

Video marketing - using a very inexpensive camcorder (something in the $200 range) you can create amazing videos that generates tons of traffic to your website and ultimately into your business. Now you may think that you have to be some kind of video whiz kid to make this work but you don’t. Simple video even by an amateur can have a tremendous recruiting effect on your business. I gain this is something that the pack only wish they knew how to do and here you are doing it. Your videos are promoting you and your brand all over the online video world. Videos receive the most traffic on the Internet of any content posted. People love to watch video.

Article marketing – article marketing like video marketing must be done on a consistent basis to be an effective mlm lead generation tool. What article marketing will do is it will brand you and it will push your Google ratings through the roof driving tons of traffic to your website. Now understand this is not a get rich quick approach. Article marketing will take upwards of a year to have any significant results and if you’re not prepared to go the long haul then don’t bother. But if you do choose to use article marketing then you can expect see your articles on the top of Google searches and not have to pay a dime to have them there. People using pay per click spend hundreds and thousands of dollars each month to have their ad sitting next to yours the cost you nothing.

There is one fear that you could have and if you don’t control it, it will crush your chances of success in business entirely! Before I tell you what that fear is I’m going to share with you a little bit of personal history.

Had The Background But Lacking Something…..

When I got involved in marketing on a more serious level I was in my 40s and I had a number of years of management experience, a college diploma and 22 years plus in the martial arts and six years in car sales. I’m telling you this so that you understand that I had a very rounded experience base to enter into marketing. Oddly enough I found myself very anxious getting on the phone and calling people that I knew to share my new business with.

Part of my anxiety centered on the possibility of me making oversights in explaining the services that my company had. Over the years I had become quite competent in my vocation and now being involved in marketing required me to step outside of what was comfortable and safe. I also believe that part of my anxiety may have been the result of my preoccupation with what other people thought of my being involved in a network marketing business.

To compensate for my first concern I devoted a lot of time to memorizing the content that my company provided on their services. Over a fairly short period of time I lost any concern that I may have had about what other people thought as a result of my new associations with a lot of very wealthy people.

The two concerns that I had that were in my opinion the most crippling however, was the fear of failure and my second one was rejection. It was far easier to sit and stare at the phone then to pick it up and call a prospect. My thinking was – if I call them and they say no to my business opportunity pitch, I’ll feel bad and if they are rude to me, their rejection will make me feel bad. Over the past 13 years I have found that these are the two major fears that crush over 90% of new entrepreneur’s chances for success.

We Love Head Games

It’s almost funny how we come up with all sorts of logical reasons why we did not do what we were supposed to do. We let any number of activities that could have easily been deferred to a later time become a priority in our day. At the end of the week we look at the results we’ve got and say that we did not have time to make the calls. In truth we had 24 hours in each day or 168 hours in the week and even after subtracting 56 hours of sleep we are still left with 112 hours. The problem was not a lack of time the problem was a lack of prioritizing.

Our lack of prioritizing was not the result of bad personal time management, but rather the result of what we unconsciously believed would make us feel better.

“Avoid the Pain Feel Okay.”

The problem with this strategy is that until we face our fear head on we can never achieve our greatest potential. Everything that we want is outside of our comfort zone. Take a look at your results for the week-did you face your fears? My recommendation is that you become honest with yourself, stop avoiding the truth and take action by working through your fear. Use the Michael Jordan philosophy “Just Do It ”. Mike Littman says “You Don’t Have To Get It Right You Just Have To Get It Going. ”

You Have Leads Now What?

While MLM lead generation is not difficult though, taking the next step and following up with your leads will determine your ultimate success. Success in marketing is a numbers game it is not a surgical process. It would be awesome if you could just sign-up three people who see the opportunity for what it is and make you a millionaire. In the real world that simply does not happen, and you need to get honest with yourself and understand that you’re going to have to commit to your business for the next five years no matter what. Oh one other thing, it’s going to be hard, with tons of frustration and disappointment and yet with your commitment and perseverance you will fail your way to success.
