I recall when I joined my first MLM and I was told to create a list of names of people that I would want to have as business partners. I gave it a lot of thought before I wrote any names down because I didn’t want to put the wrong people under me. I knew that once I was promoted to the next level I would be starting over again positioning people under me. The comp plan paid better after I got promoted so I wanted to make sure that I put my best people under me there and then that way they could recruit like crazy and make me rich.
Wow! Were those first 2 years amazing times? I learned that just because someone says they want more from life than an 8 to 5 job doesn’t mean that they are serious about change just because they join a Network Marketing / MLM Home Based Business. Over the past decade I have learned that the quality people will come to you over time though they may not join your organization directly below you. I also learned that the people you thought would tear it up didn’t and the ones you thought would quit became MLM warriors.
I went through a period in my MLM career where I thought if I sponsored people and then gave then to people I thought would get excited and explode their business once they had some success. I learned that was a delusion – if they didn’t want to do the business for themselves then there was nothing I could do for them. I recall calling other peoples’ leads and recruiting while they listened and that worked for a while but there were a bunch that started emailing me their contacts and said they would try to be on the call but they may not be as they had family stuff happening. I found myself with a job and they found a recruiter – they got paid the commissions and I got the frustrations.
I spent hours on the phone doing private one on one coaching trying to help someone get over phone fear only to receive an email saying they quit. Here is my wisdom on building your Network Marketing / MLM Home Based Business – don’t make my mistakes. If the people you sign up don’t want to invest in themselves don’t bother. Work with the ones that call you and avoid the complainers. You are in business for yourself and you really do get to choose who you work with. You are not paid an hourly wage to help those that don’t want to help themselves.
Learn how to recruit and then recruit. Use systems that teach your people how to do it without you investing all of your time with people that could easily learn from a well oiled system. Systems are great because they can work around the clock. You can go enjoy a golf game while a new person in your team is getting orientated. You can focus your efforts on creating more time leveraging activities while your new recruits are learning how to generate leads for their website.
It would be great if we could just go down to the local market and purchased a dozen MLM leaders then find a beach to live on. The reality is that if you want success you’re going to have to recruit for a 3 to 5 years with all out commitment. Fill your sales funnel with lots of leads and stop trying to sell and stop trying to save the world. Network Marketing / MLM Home Based Business success is not surgical it is a large numbers game.
It is absolutely critical that as part of your MLM success strategy you generate your own leads and that you use a lead gathering system that is either free or low in cost so that you can afford to stay in business long enough for the profits to happen.
