Marketing Strategy Plan -Blog/Nerve Center

You want to brand yourself as a leader on the Internet but how do you do it-where do you start? When I first got started with marketing online one of the very first courses that I took was from Mike Dillard and it was called Traffic Formula 2. Mike taught me that one of the very first steps I needed to take to market a myself on the Internet was to begin with a Nerve Center. This nerve center was basically a blog; however, not the kind that you keep personal or casual information on.

Mike told me that I needed to post content on this blog that would help other people become successful and by doing that and helping enough people I would attract success to myself automatically. So I began to write articles on various aspects of marketing. When I first began to post content I found the idea of creating my posts around keywords as being comparable to the tail wagging the dog. It just seemed totally backwards to me and I was very reluctant to do it.

Marketing Strategy Plan – People Need to Know How to Find You

I thought that if I wrote great articles with meaningful messages that would be enough. This was perhaps one of my silliest beliefs anyone that’s marketing online could possibly have. It’s not enough to know who your target audience is because your target audience must first come to know you and they can’t do that if they don’t know where to find you. Keywords are like signs on the highway “in 5 miles take your first turn right to website of Chuck Guyett”.

Think of an encyclopedia set if you are looking for something that has to do with zebra you would look for the animal under the letter Z. If the zebra information was located under the letter “B” it is highly unlikely that you would find the zebra information you are looking for without going page by page through the entire Encyclopedia set. So it’s absolutely critical that you choose keywords that reflect what you’re writing about.

Marketing Strategy Plan – Not All Keywords Are Created Equal

Not all keywords are created equal. When I finally came to the realization that I needed to use keywords I made the next biggest goof up, by selecting keywords I thought people would likely choose. What I learned was that I couldn’t have been more wrong. Even having an “s” at the end of the word could make a significant difference in terms of the amount of traffic my keyword would generate if it got any at all.

Another big mistake that I made was following the advice that I had received from several SEO marketing courses. They said that I should choose keywords that had traffic going to them but not to compete for keywords that had too many other competing pages as it would take longer to get ranked into the number one position. The number that I was told was not to compete for keywords that had 300,000 or more competing pages. This turned out to be very faulty advice.

Marketing Strategy Plan AuthorityMarketing Strategy Plan – Don’t Compete with UFC Mangler’s

Imagine that you had to fight four people in a boxing ring or if you preferred, you would be allowed to fight one person in a boxing ring. At first glance it would seem that fighting one person would be far better than fighting four people, but imagine that the four you had to fight each weighed 95 pounds or less and were very weak from not having eaten for several days. But when we examine the second fighting ring we discover that while it was only one fighter, this guy weighed 495 pounds, was 6 foot eight inches tall filled to the brim with pure hate.

Very quickly we discover that it is not the quantity of competition that will determine our success but rather the quality of our competition. Some factors that will determine your competition’s authority are:

  • Age of the domain
  • Page rank of the domain
  • On-Site optimization
  • Quality and quantity of links pointing

Marketing Strategy Plan – Starts with an Education from a Professional

Of course there are a number of other factors that can impact on your competitions ability to rank for a given keyword, but these are some of the more significant ones. Marketing successfully with a blog/nerve center is not can happen by accident; you absolutely need to get trained professionally. If you want to receive the top financial rewards then take Anthony Robbins advice and copy yourself after someone who is very successful at the craft you want to become skilled in. Doing exactly what they do the same way that they do it and you’ll get the same results they’re getting.
