Mark Hoverson Shared Some Truths Again With Me Today
…… that we both agree on and I wanted to share them with you, I am going to lead this post with some of my observations of the nonsense that takes place in our industry and leaves a lot of good people unprepared and set up for failure. This is only a 2 minute read but it is I believe mega important. I would love your feed back as always. Let’s get a dialogue going on this one.
Duplication Or Deflation
You got involved with a home based business and had aspirations of becoming successful and do it without having to do the 9 to 5 grind. You were given the Power of 3 Elevator Speech and perhaps several nicely drawn diagrams that show quantum growth and it was off to the races. Yet after 3 months of the 5 people you signed up into your marketing team only 2 remained and you were told that even one of those had given notice to drop their auto ship. So much for the team doubling like you had been told it would do.
Help or Hype
Sadly the majority of people that join MLMs have been given the “Lotto Mentality Pitch”. The facts are in and while it is true that Network Marketing is one of the best ways to become successful without needing much upfront capital it does require work. To make matters more challenging this work typically flies in the face of ridicule, rejection and suspicion. As employees we are accustomed to working for two weeks and getting a paycheck but as entrepreneurs we get paid for completing sales. Far too often new recruits are given a simplistic belief that if you join our team you will make it big.
Hype might sell a person enough to join a marketing venture but it will not keep him in the business and this is proven out by the startling fact that most marketing newbies quit their biz within 3 months of starting. Without having the support and guidance of successful leaders the new recruit is unable to build marketing team much less lead one.
Vision or Void
Leaders see the big picture they know that 10 rejections is not a personal reflection of ability. The have the attitude that: “some will, some won’t and someone is waiting, next….” They know they can’t control who will join their business but they can control their productivity. When I say productivity I mean income generating activity. New people to marketing are going blind down a mountain road in the dark without even stars or the moon to light the way. To make matters worse they are told that they have to spend money to make money and that always seems to smack of scam…. After all I don’t pay to go to my job!
Tell the Truth and Lead the Way
Ask your new recruit if working 3 to 4 hours extra each day for the next 3 to 5 years to have a solid income for life would be worth it even if no positive income was generated until then. It would not be reasonable to put 10 thousand dollars in the bank to accumulate interest for a 3 year period and then expect to be able to retire on it and yet that is the belief most people have when they invest 500.00 and have not hit the big time in 90 days. Give your recruits a realistic time line of committing to the business to see the results they are looking for. Let them know what kind of resistance they may have so when they run into it they are prepared and not looking like a deer caught in the headlights.

Plug your people into a system that takes the focus off of you. When you work with a Tribe mentality you will welcome your new team member in but then plug him into training that the Tribe provides. This is particularly important when you are as new as your new team member. I was listening again to my mentor Mark Hoverson again today and said to get my new team members into MLSP and then into his Coaching club where the new people receive 1 on 1 coaching by 6 figure income earners.
He said that MLSP provides a ton of marketing training and support and then the coaching club fine tunes the new people. I already believed in the MLSP as an initial step in training my new people so it was great to hear my mentor say the same thing.
Need It or Deserve It?
We need to understand that some people are not cut out for being in business for themselves and that it is ok if they aren’t. Mark said that we need to work with the people that deserve our time and not because they need it. The people that are chronic complainers and require hours of our time can kill our business. He said we need to train our people by leveraging ourselves and focus on those that not only want success but are committed to step outside their comfort zone and go for it.
